Tom Horn

1980, Movie, R, 98 mins

Steve McQueen's second production for his First Artists company (following AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE) brings to the screen the legend of Tom Horn, the western gunman who negotiated the surrender of Geronimo, singlehandedly captured notorious outlaw Peg Leg Watson, and rode with Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders. As the film begins, the aging McQueen is hired by Cheyenne, Wyoming, cattle baron Richard Farnsworth to end the local range wars. Despite straying from the facts, TOM HORN is suffused in realism, the result of outstanding production design and extraordinary cinematography by John Alonzo. Like RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY, THE SHOOTIST, and THE GREY FOX, the film is about an old cowboy's inability to adapt to the New West. leave a comment
