An astonishing, brilliantly edited car chase--with pursuer and pursued speeding the wrong way along the LA Freeway--is one of many pleasures in this darkly stylish crime film, director William Friedkin's best effort since THE EXORCIST. Richard Chance (William L. Petersen) is a Secret Service agent whose partner (Michael Greene) is brutally slain by a counterfeiting gang led by Rick Masters (Willem Dafoe). Chance is now teamed with tyro John Vukovich (John Pankow) and is determined to bring his partner's killer to justice. His quest leads him into the world of Masters, a talented artist who has given up painting and turned to making superb reproductions of $20 bills. Extremely violent, subversively homoerotic, and visually remarkable, with an electric soundtrack by Wang Chung. leave a comment
