Die-hard fans of babes-behind-bars pictures will enjoy this totally implausible penal peep-show, which panders to sexist impulses at every turn. While the results are something short of a genre classic, director Glen Pitre piles on the sleaze as a new fish winds up in a prison that makes JACKSON COUNTY JAIL seem like a day spa. Mama Sarah McKinney (Catherine Oxenberg) is battered by her abusive spouse and can't prevent her traumatized tyke, Jason (Zach Gray), from shooting his abusive papa dead. Jason goes into shock and Sarah is convicted of the crime in his place, sentenced by fanatical Judge Engstrom (James Handy) to the Big House. Because her court-appointed attorney, Patrick (Jeff Fahey), bungled her defense, Sarah faces an unusual work program. Instead of license plate training or computer classes, inmates can prepare for careers as exotic dancers/hookers at a nightclub owned by the sleazy Mr. D (Bo Hopkins)! Sarah's initial refusal to shake her booty has dire consequences: She's raped by a lesbian seamstress and an assistant warden. Beaten by the system, Sarah becomes a topless attraction for this corrupt enterprise sanctioned by prison officials. Will Sarah's reluctant foray into nude dancing awaken Patrick's fighting instinct and, if so, will his discovery of Engstrom's connection to the hot spot prove Sarah's undoing or her salvation? The plot synopsis alone should be sufficient to whet the appetites of Big Doll House aficionados, and though Oxenburg tries to maintain her dignity while bumping and grinding, the supporting cast dives gleefully into the garbage heap. This sleaze-fest welcomes back such CAGED stereotypes as salivating guards, salty cellmates, hypocritical judges and the bull-dyke bullies. Pitre can't quite keep the pace from flagging, but this ridiculous film makes suitable viewing for admirers of camp cinema.
