The last entry in the MICHAEL SHAYNE series in which Nolan plays the private eye, here given the job of retrieving an expensive coin which rightfully belongs to dowager Griffies. From this point on, Nolan sleuths his way through three murders until he tracks down both the coin and the killer. The last and probably the best of Nolan's appearances as Shayne, largely because of the superior story supplied by author Chandler. Remade in 1947 as THE BRASHER DOUBLOON. leave a comment
