Members of the French Foreign Legion in the Sudan battle natives who are tired of the invaders. Mature plays an American trader who helps the French and steals De Carlo from her husband, the commander of the fort. Much of the plot concerns efforts to use a Moslem holy man, stereotypically
depicted by Mudie, to quiet the rebels. To do so they must trek across the desert to the city of Timbuktu. Director Tourneur was out of his league with this type of stuff. Producer Small dropped his name from the credits.
