One of Ginger Rogers' best roles, and Astaire is nowhere in sight. In an interesting change of pace, she plays a model wrongly convicted of a crime she didn't commit who is released into the custody of U.S. attorney Edward G. Robinson. He wants her to testify against against a ruthless gangster (Lorne Greene!), but she's scared: None of the other potential witnesses have lived long enough to tell their stories in court.
