Against the Tide -- Against the Tide tells the successful reentry story of two inmates released from the state prison in Hillsborough, NC during the summer of 2009.
Against the Tide shows us that two men sentenced to life in prison for first degree murder are fellow human beings eminently worthy of our efforts and trust. It shows us that men imprisoned for 25 years can change, can be ready to become contributing members of society. Against the Tide demonstrates that support team volunteers need only bring with them their own wonderful life experiences.
There are more than 40,000 men and women locked up in North Carolina prisons. Of these inmates, 98 percent will eventually re-enter society. LeJhoyn Holland and Bill Rasor were released from the state prison in Hillsborough, North Carolina, in the summer of 2009; each had served 25 years of a life sentence for first-degree murder. They face long odds. Sixty-five percent of ex-offenders return to prison.
Against the Tide follows Holland and Rasor from the day of release, through the challenges and choices they meet in their transition back into society. The film also shows the vital role of support teams in the re-entry of these two men.
Against the Tide is an excellent documentary about the trials and travails that ex-offenders face as they transition to the free world. It is real!
