TIDAL WAVE | JAPAN SINKS | NIPPON CHIUBOTSU | SUBMERSION OF JAPAN, THE
starstarstarstar
Shot in Japan as THE SUBMERSION OF JAPAN in 1973, this film was released as a two-and-a-half hour disaster epic. Scientists discover the island is sinking and will be destroyed in less than two years. The rest of the movie details the elaborate evacuation plans and soap opera-like subplots involving various characters. The film was very popular in Japan at the time, and, knowing how to ruin a good thing when he sees it, New World chief Roger Corman bought the American distribution rights, shaved off over an hour of the running time, inserted ludicrous new footage featuring Lorne Greene, and released the resulting dubbed-in mess in drive-ins across the country. leave a comment
