What was originally intended as a plain old WW I adventure film turned into a topical propaganda piece when Adolf Hitler unleashed the German U-boats in the Atlantic. Beery stars as a tough tugboat captain who joins the Navy after his boat is sunk by the German submarines. To his surprise, Beery's commanding officer is his hated tugboat rival Morris.
