Wartime musical starring Joyce as a plucky singer in a run-down London nightclub who is determined to become a star. When her producer-fiance Margetson and his partner decide to recruit new talent from the war factories, Joyce gets a job in an airplane plant in order to be "discovered." There she meets dashing RAF officer Fraser and the couple falls in love. The plan causes more trouble than it's worth when her roommate, Lanchester, and fellow plant workers, including Fraser, discover that Joyce joined the war effort just to further her singing career. Eventually Joyce manages to persuade the cast that she is not such a bad person after all. Songs include: "From Here On," "Love Is a Corny Thing" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne, sung by Joyce), "Who Are the British?" (Cahn, Styne, sung by Niesen), "Thumbs Up" (Jaffe, O'Brien, Lee, sung by Joyce), and "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart" (by James Hanley). leave a comment
