Average family entertainment about a 13-year-old Native American boy who is forced to return to the reservation to see his "dying" grandfather. The boy has a strong dislike for his new surroundings but is soon won over by his grandfather's kindness. Before you know it, the lad is skillfully shooting a bow and arrow and showing off Indian-style prowess. Quaid, who got an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor for his work in THE LAST DETAIL as the befuddled, court-martialed sailor, is the only known name in a cast otherwise comprising Native American amateurs. Producer Zaentz--who with Michael Douglas coproduced ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (1975)--must have liked the land of the author of that film, Ken Kesey; this one makes the most of the Oregon wilderness scenery. leave a comment
