The title's three violent people--former Confederate soldier Heston; former prostitute and wife of Heston, Baxter; and Heston's one-armed brother, Tryon--find themselves battling each other and money-grabbing carpetbaggers. Heston and Baxter marry after knowing little or nothing about each other and return to his Bar-S ranch which has been run by Mexican ranch foreman Roland and his sons. Conflicts arise when Tryon demands his portion of the ranch, in gold, and tries to convince Heston to sell to any Northerner who wants it. Heston's world is further upset when he discovers Baxter was once a hooker and is now pregnant with his child. He gives her enough money to live on and asks her to leave. However, after a plot to kill Heston has been foiled, he and Baxter stay together to run the ranch with Roland, while Tryon gets killed in a gun battle with government troops. This is interesting mainly in contrast to THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, released the same year, which saw Heston in a considerably more pious role. leave a comment
