A tolerable version of the Bertolt Brecht-Kurt Weill opera which seems to defy an expert transformation to the screen, especially after G.W. Pabst's minor attempt. This time Sammy Davis, Jr., takes over the role of the ballad singer, while Jurgens is Mack the Knife. The story, a simple
one, has Jurgens proposing to marry Ritchie and follows the ruckus that action raises on the beggar-populated streets. Stick to the 1931 version, THE THREEPENNY OPERA.
