This star-studded musical salute to the American soldier is filled with Irving Berlin's songs and morale-boosting patriotism. Taken from Berlin's stage play, which opened July 4, 1942, THIS IS THE ARMY also adapts portions of Berlin's earlier musical "Yip Yip Yaphank." Jerry Jones (George Murphy) is a big-time Broadway star who, at the beginning of WWI, is drafted into the service and given the job of putting on a big show.
