Prudence Cathaway (Joan Fontaine), daughter of a wealthy London surgeon of great repute, goes beneath her social station and volunteers for the WAAFs instead of entering the service as an officer, because she wants to go in at the bottom and attend training camp as a private. While in training, she gets fixed up with Clive Briggs (Tyrone Power), who is not in the service.
