An intelligent, modern vampire tale is given a serious treatment in this well-acted, technically superior production. Beautiful businesswoman Kate Davis (Chantal Contouri) is kidnaped by the Hyma Brotherhood, a secret organization that exists in near solitude in a desolate rural area. The group, led by Dr. Fraser (David Hemmings), believe themselves to be a superior race because of their consumption of human blood, extracted from "donors" through a high-tech, sanitary, dairy-farm-type operation. Convinced that Kate is the direct descendent of the Hyma Brotherhood's revered founder, Countess Bathory, Dr. Fraser asks the businesswoman to join the cult. THIRST is not without its problems, but its highly original concept and occasionally creepy atmosphere carry the picture. leave a comment
