Things Are Looking Up

Courtneidge plays a double role in this quite good comedy, as a teacher in a private girls' school and as her twin, a circus trick rider who assumes the teacher's place when the first twin elopes with a wrestler. The circus performer is a great success in her new position and has been raised to headmistress before her sister returns. Vivien Leigh makes her film debut here as a schoolgirl with only one line, but a number of closeups. She tried out for the part mostly on a lark, but enjoyed the experience of acting so much that she began to devote more of her energies that way.
