They All Laughed

The polished Gazzara, the bumbling Ritter, and the ultra-hip Novak work for a detective agency. Over the course of the film, all three become romantically involved with the women they are shadowing--Hepburn, Hansen, and Stratten playing the objects of their affection. Breezy and carefree, THEY ALL LAUGHED suffers from a weak, hard-to-grasp structure. As lovable as the characters and their situations are, one is never quite sure where the film is leading. The film spent nearly a year on the shelf until director Bogdanovich bought it from Fox and distributed it himself.
