The Last Detail: Review

A grim yet touching portrait of two sailors (Jack Nicholson and Otis Young) assigned to escort a third (Randy Quaid) from West Virginia to a Massachusetts naval prison for petty theft. The mood is grey and Robert Towne's dialogue is extremely raunchy, but it's one of director Hal Ashby's best films, and features one of Nicholson's greatest performances of the '70s.
