This charming children's tale is about a 7-year-old Chinese boy (Joe) who is befriended by an elderly carriage driver (Mason) and becomes especially fond of the horse that pulls the carriage. When the horse dies, the old man slips into a depression and loses his will to continue. The
youngster rallies his family and friends to chip in enough cash to buy another horse. Filmed in and around New York's Chinatown and Central Park, THE YEAR OF THE HORSE has an amateurish quality to it (as well as some keen animation sequences), but still conveys a pleasant story.
