The road chosen is one of crime and those traveling toward trouble are Cromwell and Mack, a boy friend-girl friend team who decide to steal $100,000 from the bank where Mack works as a teller. They hide the loot in a music box, get caught, and do a few years in the pen. They get out,
thinking they'll be in the money, but can't seem to find the music box. The antique dealer with whom they left it has since died. In the end, they turn the money over to the authorities in exchange for clear consciences.
