The upper rung of the social ladder is satirized in this bit of filmed theater based on a play by Moliere. It marks the first film appearance for the famed Comedie Francaise, who normally would only allow one member at a time to appear in a film. The performances are all top notch, as is
the writing and the adaptation of the original. As film art, however, it offers nothing. The project appears designed solely to preserve the Comedie Francaise for future generations to enjoy. (In French; English subtitles.)
