This canine caper set in the Great White North offers parallel romances, one happy, the other tragic. Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable Grant, with his faithful dog Chinook, seeks the people who slay fur traders and rob them of their goods. He meets a jolly trapper, Norris, who
successfully romances a local village maiden. Chinook is not as fortunate; in his one fling, he gets aced out by a wolf. The rest of the film is all action, with the killers finally brought to justice. An early low-budget effort from director Boetticher, who handled the crime genre well in THE
RISE AND FALL OF LEGS DIAMOND (1960).
