The first Maynard talkie makes great use of the new audio medium by emphasizing every possible sound effect from hand-clapping to villain Santschi's whip-snapping. With a vocal chorus behind him, Maynard plays both guitar and violin. Maynard plays a guide hired to take a wagon of miners
to their future work site. Santschi is the whip-toting bad guy out to stop the miners at all costs. Exciting footage of the wagon train thundering over the desert was re-used several times in other films including MYSTERY MOUNTAIN (1934) and THE MIRACLE RIDER (1935).
