Barrymore plays a backwoods farmer with a deep love for his hunting dogs, especially one that is killed by mean-spirited Digges. In retaliation Barrymore kills Digges, which doesn't help the love affair between Barrymore's son and Digges' daughter, but things manage to work themselves out,
with the dog being missed more than Digges. Interesting footage of the Missourians during a hunt is melded into the unfolding of the weak plot. The dog that gave her name to the film barked so incessantly during the shooting that Barrymore took her home with him at one point, hoping that
familiarity would breed less contempt.
