This uninspired remake of the oft-filmed Owen Wister story has little going for it except a few good performances. McCrea is the title character this time, following in the steps of Dustin Farnum, Kenneth Harlan, and Gary Cooper. When a friend, Tufts, takes up with rustler Donlevy, McCrea first tries to warn him off, but later stands by while a posse hangs Tufts. Britton rejects him after this episode, but they are later reconciled when McCrea takes a bullet from Donlevy. On the day McCrea and Britton are to be married, there is a final showdown with Donlevy, and McCrea comes out on top. Paramount tried to revamp the familiar story with the addition of Technicolor ...
