In 1982 Frank Zappa and his daughter Moon Unit recorded the hit song "Valley Girl," a nifty little satire of California teenagers' values and their totally awesome convolutions of the English language. This dismal picture was quickly shoved in front of the cameras, apparently in an attempt to cash in on the Val craze that flooded the nation that summer. The banal story involves four California teens who want to save an orphanage run by Mr. Stanton (John Carradine) from closing down. The gang manages to get the needed funds by conning the cash out of two cocaine dealers. It's all delivered with the utmost simplicity and holds little interest for even a casual viewer. An adult cast of has-beens, including Sue Anne Langdon, Chuck Connors, and Sonny Bono, are featured in equally mindless roles, adding nothing--not even unintentional humor--to an already-terminal picture. leave a comment
