The Two Lives Of Mattia Pascal

This is the second screen adaptation in 1985 of a work by Luigi Pirandello featuring Marcello Mastroianni, the other being HENRY IV. In this film Mastroianni is Mattia Pascal, a man whose life is nothing but trouble. After his mother passes away, he leaves his wife and mother-in-law and heads for Monte Carlo where he wins a fortune. Back in his hometown, a man who has killed himself is mistaken for Mastroianni. Learning of this, Mastroianni settles in Rome, where he hopes to start a new life using a different identity.
