Yet another quasi-epic based on Greek mythology for muscleman Reeves. This time he's the leader of some warriors and is opposed for leadership by Bentivegna. Reeves marries Mayniel, who becomes pregnant and is kidnaped during the constant barrage of sword fighting. Under the command of Barrymore (an uplifting cameo that gives the film its needed touch of class), the Greek warriors build the fabled Trojan horse and hide out in its belly. The wooden nag is left outside the city of Troy after word is put out that this is a holy object. The horse is brought into the city, and the Greek warriors emerge from it to pillage the town. Reeves finds his wife has been murdered but has given birth to a son. He takes the boy, along with some of his warriors, and together they found the city of Rome. This story doesn't exactly stick to all the mythological stories and throws famed characters around like tenpins, but it's good Saturday matinee fare. On that level it works with some success. leave a comment
