This self-gratifying project by Laughlin is one of the most cliche-ridden, absurd films ever to force its way onto the screen and down the throats of millions of people who flocked to theaters to sit through it. Its success assured yet another sequel, BILLY JACK GOES TO WASHINGTON, about the peace-loving Indian who is dying for the chance to kick in the teeth of the hawkish bourgeoisie who threaten the liberty of his friends at the Freedom School. He gets his chance when the National Guard encroaches on school property to quell student attempts to expose political shenanigans through their TV station. How a small school like this ever got a TV station is one of the many incongruities placed in this film to help develop the plot. The whole thing is told in flashback from the point of view of Taylor, Laughlin's real-life wife and business partner, whose acting ability consists of crying a lot because people are cruel. When she's not crying, she spouts out trite philosophy about how the world can become such a wonderful place to live. Would someone please make THE HANGING OF BILLY JACK? leave a comment
