Knapp is a cop with a reputation for being sadistic when dealing with thugs. He kills an important underworld figure who resists arrest and then spends the rest of the film being pursued by someone trying to avenge the gangster's death. Though the direction is competent enough, the plot
takes a few unbelievable twists that only confuse the viewer. Is this a psychological story or just a mystery? Actually it's just another routine cop film. A good jazz score helps set the mood.
