In Ginger Rogers' second feature (and her first melodrama), the young starlet plays a role where she's deep in trouble. It's 13 years after a dinner party where all 13 guests were shocked when the host suddenly died. Now everyone who was there is back and a hooded killer is determined that none of them shall survive. Though only average as thrillers go, this was better than many programmer mysteries. The performances are good with a direction that handles the unusual story well. Because of Rogers' popularity, in later years this film was re-released several times. It was later remade as THE MYSTERY OF THE THIRTEENTH GUEST. leave a comment
