Lovejoy plays a hotshot bookie who becomes the center of an investigation by a newspaper reporter trying to expose the evils of organized crime. The investigation results in a committee designed by politicos to investigate the syndicate. Though at first refusing to budge from silence, Lovejoy is persuaded by the murder of a young robber and the subsequent suicide of his son, to supply the committee with all the information it desires. In the process he winds up in prison himself, but with a possibly bright future because Weldon, daughter of the publisher who supported the investigation, promises to remain faithful until Lovejoy's release from jail. The plot stretches believability quite a bit to drag out some sentiment. Otherwise everything is handled in a completely routine fashion. leave a comment
