Historically inaccurate but bursting with Disney energy and charm, this is an account of the love life of Mary Tudor, sister to King Henry VIII, as she shuns the advances of a nobleman in order to wed a commoner. Johns plays the woman of royalty who falls for commoner Todd, forcing him to stay in England by making him captain of the guards. To help her brother's plans of a reconciliation with France, she weds the king of France, knowing that his ill-health will lead him to a quick death. When Johns attempts to return to England, the Lord of Buckingham, played by Gough, pursues her in an attempt to coerce her to the altar. But the woman only has eyes for Todd, who shows up in time. For his efforts, Henry allows his sister to marry the commoner and bestows on him a large portion of land. A lot of effort went into the costumes and settings, but the picture remains drab. leave a comment
