STUNT MAN, THE
starstarstarstar
Peter O'Toole, a megalomaniacal film director, tyrannizes his writer and plays games with his actors, manipulating their actions in reality, just as he does in the story he is filming. Steve Railsback is on the run from the law, and he stumbles upon the movie company as they shoot a scene on the beach. After his top stuntman is killed, O'Toole, who has shielded Railsback from the law, persuades the young man to take the dead man's place. Railsback is then thrust into the not-so-glamorous world of moviemaking and gets involved with Barbara Hershey, O'Toole's beautiful star and lover. Lawrence B. Marcus's script, which pits real life against reel life, offers plenty of wit, with most of the bons mots handed to O'Toole. leave a comment
