The life of a middle-class Indian family is turned upside down when a stranger (Utpal Dutt) arrives at their door and claims to be a long-lost uncle. The late Satyajit Ray is still best known for his lyrical evocation of Bengali rural life in PATHER PANCHALI (1955), but he devoted the
better part of his career to dissecting the Calcutta bourgeoisie. This 1991 film -- Ray's last -- is far from his best, but its delicate, loosely structured domestic satire rewards viewer patience.
