Truffaut's hauntingly poetic tale of obsession stars the beautiful Isabelle Adjani as Adele Hugo, daughter of France's most beloved author, Victor Hugo. The picture opens in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1863, after Adele has left her father's Guernsey home to seek out Albert Pinson (Bruce Robinson), a young English lieutenant who wants nothing to do with the determined young woman.
