A showcase for the talents of singing star Clooney, in her first film role, and Alberghetti, this musical has barely a thread of plot tying it together. Clooney is one of three vaudevillians who helps hide illegal alien Alberghetti from the immigration officers. Their neighbor, Melchior, a former opera singer, is the old family friend to whom Alberghetti turns after jumping ship. The Jay Livingston-Ray Evans tunes include: "I Do I Do I Do," "Haven't Got a Worry to My Name," "My Heart Is Home," "My Kind of Day," "Feed Fido Some Rruff," "New Father," and "Lovely Weather for Ducks." Also included are: "Come-on-a-My-House" (Ross Bagdasarian, William Saroyan), "Voices of Spring" (Johann Strauss), "Una Voce Poco Fa" (Rossini, from "The Barber of Seville"), "Because" (Edward Teschemacher, Guy d'Hardelot), "Ah Fors E Lui Che L'Anima" (Verdi, from "La Traviata"), and "Vesti La Giubba" (Leoncavallo, from "Pagliacci"). "Come-on-a-My-House," penned by writer Saroyan and his sometime-actor cousin Bagdasarian, was the hit that had launched Clooney on her astronomical singing career in 1951. leave a comment
