THE SONG FROM MY HEART is based on the life of famed Japanese poet Hideo Yoshino, who shares his memories in interview with a young Swedish student. As the film shifts to flashback, Yoshino (Nakamura) recalls his happy marriage to Yachigusa, during which he wrote his best poetry. When
his wife dies, Nakamura spends time raising his family and neglects his work. Eventually he marries his housekeeper, Iwashita, upsetting his daughter, Kitabayashi. He is then shunned by his two sons, who feel inadequate because their father's accomplishments. Right before his death, Nakamura
reconciles with one of his sons, which inspires him to write one final poem.
