This unique western is unfortunately hampered by its completely routine treatment. Crosby, the star of a Broadway musical who goes west to help a pal in trouble, accidentally ends up as sheriff. Through a series of comic blunders Crosby ends up stopping a group of murderous outlaws. The
film, intended as a western spoof, doesn't work at all on that level. As a straight comedy it has its moments, though Crosby's double takes grow weary after a while. The direction is good, but the script suffers from stiff dialog and a misfired premise.
