Powell is the title character, a talented marine who achieves overnight fame after winning a radio contest. But with his newfound fame comes an inflated ego that causes Powell to be one unpopular fellow with his old buddies in the Corps, to say nothing of his girl friend, Weston. The film
is predictable and only mildly amusing, though Powell gives his usual amiable, squeaky clean performance. Musical numbers staged by Busby Berkeley are worth a look. The songs are typical of the period, but one piece, "The Song of the Marines," was adopted as the official Marine Corps anthem. Other
