Docu-drama about a tribe of Indians in northern Ontario, detailing their customs and rituals. What little plot there is has rival tribesmen Chief Long Lance and Chief Akawanush fighting for control of the tribe. Food is scarce and Chief Yellow Robe is near death. Chief Long Lance decides to lead the tribe south towards a herd of caribou, over the protests of Chief Akawanush, who calls his rival a coward. After days without food or water, a tribal meeting is called. Chief Akawanush summons the gods and tells Chief Long Lance that they want him, Long Lance, to be sacrificed. As Chief Long Lance is preparing to burn himself to death on a funeral pyre, a caribou stampede is spotted. Chief Long Lance is made tribal leader and receives Spotted Elk as his bride, while Chief Akawanush is banished from the tribe. Interesting only from an anthropological standpoint, THE SILENT ENEMY came forth from an expedition sponsored by New York's Museum of Natural History. leave a comment
