Good old boys outmaneuver the urban riff-raff at every hair-pin turn in this rural caper comedy that will gladden the heart of anyone pining for the return of SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT-style pictures. Nogales, Mexico: After corrupt Mexican cops and Yankee Mafiosi wipe each other out, cow courier Jose (Paul Rodriguez) decides to appropriate their shipment of Viagra and drive it to Paradise, Arizona. But before Jose can go into business for himself, New York City mobster Eddie Colucci (Nicholas Turturro), who needs money to finance his political ambitions, muscles in on his windfall; what Eddie doesn't realize that Jose's stash belongs to American paisanos, not Mexican gangsters. Jose strikes a deal with Eddie, then unveils his unorthodox plan to get the pills across the border: He inserts them into condoms, and buries the condoms deep in his cows' private parts. When Eddie's Uncle Frank (Robert Loggia) learns of his nephew's ill-considered power-play, he sends his right-hand man, Vincent Florio (Joe Cortese), to square Eddie with the Mob. Meanwhile, Jose's rig attracts the attention of local lawman Mitch Garrett (Matthew Modine), who suspects Jose of cattle rustling. Garrett outsmarts Eddie's crew on the highway and stows the cows at his ranch. At this point, Garrett’s dim-bulb ranch hand, Lester Tritt (G. Michael Gray), discovers stash of viagra and removes the bundles of pills from their hiding places. Vincent and Eddie subsequently spot Jose's cattle truck and try to beat the truth out of Lester. Lester clams up, so they go to work on Mitch and refuse to believe that he had no idea about the secret cargo. Who will make off with the prized Viagra capsules? Director Alex Wright's talented cast screams a lot, but their best efforts aren't loud enough to drown out screenwriter Rich Steen's leaden dialogue. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
