The third Dr. Kildare outing has Ayres curing blind heiress Gilbert of her affliction (it turns out to be psychosomatic) and tricking the grouchy, overworked Barrymore into taking a long-needed vacation. Considered by some critics to be a superior entry in the series, THE SECRET OF DR.
KILDARE also stands out as the vehicle that starred an actress who worked her way up in an unusual way. Helen Gilbert first joined the MGM studio orchestra as a cellist before she was tapped for an on-screen appearance. Though exceedingly attractive, her acting skills left something to be
desired.
