The Scarlet Claw

One of the better films in the series of HOLMES features in which Rathbone starred. This one takes place in Canada, where the sleuth and his sidekick Watson (Nigel Bruce) are attending a seminar on the supernatural. The foggy marshes differ little from the usual setting, and the inhabitants of the village are fearful of a legendary monster that stalks the marshes and is apparently responsible for a number of murders. But Rathbone astutely relates these killings to a former actor who had been madly in love with the first victim, the wife of Cavanagh.
