Sanders returns as "The Saint" in the third outing for the RKO series. This time he's off to London to crack a gang that wants to pass off $5 million worth of counterfeit banknotes. Gray is a society girl who becomes enamored of Sanders and horns her way into the investigation, and Burns is a wisecracking underworld ringleader. As usual for the series, this is an enjoyable mystery with a taut script and intelligent direction. The society girl forcing her way into the hero's investigation is reminiscent of THE THIN MAN, but Gray does so well in the part that you're willing to forgive RKO for stealing the idea from MGM's series. Carstairs directed this film as part of a quota agreement for RKO. THE SAINT IN LONDON initially earned $140,000 for the studio, a fairly handsome sum for the times. leave a comment
