The Rogue Song

Lawrence Tibbett, in his debut performance, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor as a Russian bandit leader who falls in love with princess Owen, whose brother wronged Tibbett's sister. He kills the brother, then kidnaps the princess, but she is less than responsive. He is captured and flogged, though as the whip is being brought down, Owen realizes that she loves him. Weakly received upon its release, THE ROGUE SONG was acclaimed only for Tibbett's (a Metropolitan Opera baritone) vocalizing, and not at all for its comedy.
