This filming of Joseph A. Walker's Tony-winning melodrama about ideological conflict in the inner city misses the mark due to Shah's uncertain direction. The central characters are cancer victim Tyson and her husband Jones, an aspiring poet who pays the bills by painting houses. The
story is dated and the ghetto setting is overly stylized, but Jones' exuberant performance is worth a look.
