The most interesting detail in this middling, made-for-TV thriller is that the detective heroine keeps a pet pig; otherwise it's a standard-issue crime picture complete with fall gal who has a knack for falling for her clients, run-of-the-mill erotica and transparent double-crosses. Socialite Anthea Farrow-Smith (Dana Delany) hires P.I. Derian McCall (Rebecca DeMornay) tail her spouse Michael Farrow-Smith (Kiefer Sutherland), whom she suspects of infidelity. Anthea soon progresses to offering Derian money to test Michael's faithfulness on a "personal" basis. Having already fallen for a seductive felon during her previous career as a cop, Derian has trouble resisting the unscrupulous Michael, who can really turn on the charm. So when Derian gets the word from former police associates and a federal agent that Michael is under investigation for stock manipulation, she refuses to participate in a sting. Anthea keeps changing her reasons for hiring Derian, Derian procrastinates about coming clean to Michael and then, late one night, Anthea calls Derian in hysterics to tell her she's just shot Michael in self-defense. But to Derian's surprise, she's the one charged with murder. As Derian tries to clear herself from behind bars, someone kills her agency's photographer — what could his photos reveal about Anthea's scheme to frame Derian for Michael's murder? As Derian runs out of options, she searches for Anthea's surprising accomplice in a financial scheme fueled by fraud and homicide. This who-can-you-trust murder mystery is partially redeemed by its Hollywood gloss, but slick production values and performances can't entirely compensate for a clueless protagonist like Derian. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
