A watered-down portrayal of a real-life prostitute, played by Russell, who gets kicked out of San Francisco and takes refuge in Honolulu in the early 1940s. On board a Hawaii-bound ship, Russell meets science fiction writer Egan, who treats her with more respect than any man she's ever met. Although Egan tries to steer her away from a career in a dance hall, Russell pays no heed and takes work at Moorehead's Bungalow Club.
